Budgeting of work
Analysis with the RIC is expected to be a collaborative effort, where we design an analysis plan that is best suited to address your biological question and adapt and update the plan according to the needs of the project. All projects start with an initial consultation meeting, following which we will create a project plan and budget estimate for your project for your approval before beginning any analysis.
Data management and project deliverables
The PI will provide the RIC with access to raw data and appropriate metadata. The PI is strongly encouraged to retain their own copy of the raw data from the data generation facility; the RIC makes no guarantees of long-term availability or retention of raw data files.
RIC will carry out detailed analysis and provide analysis result files through the RRC Data Portal (data.rrc.uic.edu). Raw data files are not shared through the Data Portal. UIC users may access the Data Portal using their UIC NetID; non-UIC users must access through Illumina BaseSpace credentials linked to their email address (BaseSpace accounts may be made for free at basespace.illumina.com). More details about using the Data Portal may be found at our help page. Results will be maintained on the Data Portal for a period of 180 days following the completion of the project, after which they are subject to deletion. Reminder emails will be sent to users at several scheduled intervals prior to project deletion from the Data Portal.
Reports will be shared as HTML documents. Processed data tables will be shared as Microsoft Excel or tab-delimited text documents, or in application-specific formats such as VCF. Plots will be shared as PDF documents. Intermediate files, such as BAM files, may be shared upon request.
RIC will provide assistance with manuscript preparation upon request, including preparation of methods text, reviewing manuscript drafts, and assistance with upload of raw and processed data to online repositories. These services are provided at no additional charge to the customer.
When using results from RIC in any publication, please include the RIC as co-authors or in the acknowledgements; co-authorship should be included for any projects involving intellectual contributions in data analysis or interpretation.
Acknowledgement of effort
Please acknowledge the RIC’s contribution to the bioinformatics analysis in your work. When extensive bioinformatics analyses have been customized for your research project, we can assist with manuscript preparation and inclusion in publication authorship is appropriate.
We are managed by the Research Resources Center (RRC) and funded by the Office of the Vice- Chancellor for Research (OVCR). We are also supported in part by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). Please include acknowledgments for the above resources as well.
